How to Set a Pretty Spring Tablescape

With Mother's Day fast approaching, I thought I'd share a recent spring-themed tablescape I created and provide some basic tips on designing something similar for a ladies luncheon or other spring get-together.

Spring is such a fun time to invite some family or friends over and celebrate the freshness of the new season.

For this spring themed table, I started with a soothing colour pallet of soft teal, white and silver.

Usually, more subdued or pastel tones are associated with spring but go with what you like. It looks best though if you keep your colour combo to 2-3 colours at most. Greenery accents act as neutrals especially for spring.

Blossoms, nests and candles with glass and silver were the basis of the centerpiece.

If you have hurricane or cylinder vases that will fit inside each other, you can create something similar for the center of your table.  A single glass vase of any variety would also work.

Faux blossoms or other spring floral stems can be wrapped around the inside vase.
If you do not have the inside glass vase, use a faux candle so there is no danger of the floral stems catching on fire.

Problems getting a pillar candle to sit level in a vase? Just use a filler like the white sand I've placed in the bottom of the inner vase.

Round up any decorative nests and eggs or spring-themed accents to place around the base of the vase.

A bit of faux greenery helps fill in any spaces.

Take some additional faux blossom/floral stems and run them out from the center glass vase. I set my center vase on a mirror for some added sparkle but this is not necessary.

Silver-look candleholders were also placed on mirror coasters. Again, this an extra embellishment and not crucial.

Small white birds add to the spring-time look.

If you don't have any birds, look around your home to see if there are any other small ornaments that would fit with the spring theme and colour scheme.

I am a big fan of layering table linens.  Tablecloths, placemats, runners, cloth napkins all add to the luxurious feel of a tablescape.  As long as they coordinate with your overall plan, go for it! Just make sure they are ironed :(

Placecard holders are a great way to add extra embellishment to your table.

I created these using small glass bowls (from mini-tasting sets) and placing a small nest, eggs, blossom and greenery inside.

The actual placecard holder is a mini silver dinner bell which actually rings.  I found them in the post Christmas sales at a local grocery store.

I think these will be fun to use to have guests ring when they need their wine glass topped up :)
Just tuck the name card inside the glass dish if you don't have the actual holder.

These beautiful charger plates that look like actual dinnerware, are actually plastic.  Charger plates are functional as well as decorative as they keep any food spills on your tablecloth/placemats to a minimum.

You will notice, there are no plates on the table.  This allows for either a buffet type luncheon where the dishes are set beside the food (in the kitchen in my case) or if you prefer, you as the hostess, can dish up each guest's plate and bring it to the table.

Having a refreshing glass of water waiting on the table when guests sit down not only looks pretty but is a thoughtful gesture.

Be sure to remember to create ambiance with candles which can be real or faux.  I chose some crackle glass votive holders but put water and floating candles inside rather than votives.

I hope you have been inspired to get out your pretties and try setting a table for a ...

Have fun and enjoy this wonderful season while it's here!
